Is it ever appropriate to start a relationship with your computer operating system? Such a conundrum is contemplated by the character played by Joaquin Phoenix in the Oscar–nominated film, Her, set in the near future. Such a future has already been envisioned by Rollo Carpenter who has designed an intelligent system called Cleverbot that is capable of sophisticated interactions with humans. A team of industrial designers hope to make the landscape safer with a project called SaveOneLife by devising a landmine detecting system worn on the inside of a pair of shoes.
