Searching for an Identity in Ukraine and Kazakhstan

From Our Own Correspondent

Available for over a year

Two reports on the search for identity in a post-Soviet world. Gabriel Gatehouse meets the protestors who have brought parts of central Kiev to a standstill. As they dig in with home-made weapons, body armour and makeshift barricades, he finds they're in it for the long haul. In Almaty, Caroline Eden meets a shaman. Faced with the ideological vacuum left after the end of Soviet rule in Kazakhstan, many are rediscovering the rural traditions of their country's past. Yet not everyone is comfortable with this return to mysticism. Presenter: Pascale Harter. Producer: Polly Hope.
