WW1 Conscription Appeal Records

Drivetime with Eddie Nestor

Available for over a year

Details of thousands of Londoners who tried to avoid conscription in World War One have been released online by the National Archives in Kew. The papers are from the Middlesex Appeal Tribunal which heard appeals in 1916 and 1918. But if you think most of those who tried to avoid going to war were conscientious objectors, you'd be wrong. BBC London 94.9's David Friend has been to Kew to find out more.
