Is Ukraine at Risk of a Civil War?

World Have Your Say

Available for over a year

We hear from Ukraine where tensions remain high as clashes continued overnight between police and anti-government protesters. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said the protesters "bear a responsibility in avoiding a civil war, and bloodshed, and so does the government". Is the situation in Ukraine reaching a threshold in the protests that started in December after the government opted not to sign a deal bringing the country closer to the EU? Opposition leader Vitali Klitschko has asked protesters to observe an eight-hour truce in the clashes. However, he has said he will lead pro-EU protesters "on the attack" if snap elections are not called. (Picture: Ukraine's police in riot gear standing in formation.
