With only six days left to raise the debt ceiling - time is running out for a deal to be struck which would prevent the US defaulting on its debts. But at least - or at last - the signs do seem a little more encouraging that some sort of a deal might be done. It maybe through gritted teeth, but the two sides - the White House and Republicans - are talking. We look at the effects of the shutdown in the USA and around the world. And though President Obama may have had to give the latest Apec leaders summit a miss because of trouble at home - trade talks went on without him. Business Matters guest Colin Peacock in New Zealand assesses how the recent Apec meeting has affected plans for a pan Pacific trade deal.
