Most of us, when we hit the road, don't think or expect to be involved in a road accident. But if it should ever happen, seatbelts, airbags and better built cars are all things which protect us. And those things save lives. The total number of people seriously injured has fallen by 15% in the five years from 2007 to 2012 to nearly 196,000.
