George Zimmerman Cleared of Murdering Trayvon Martin

World Have Your Say

Available for over a year

Protest marches were staged in US cities over the weekend after Florida neighbourhood watchman, George Zimmerman, was cleared of murdering black teenager Trayvon Martin. Protesters took to the streets in San Francisco, Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington, Atlanta and Oakland - where some started small fires and smashed windows. President Obama has called for 'calm reflection' and said Mr Martin's death was a tragedy for America, but that it was 'a nation of laws and a jury has spoken'. The 17-year-old was shot by Zimmerman, a neighbourhood watchman, in 2012. His lawyers argued that he acted in self-defence and with justifiable use of deadly force. He was acquitted of all charges on Saturday.
