Paying for News?

Over to You

Available for over a year

Richard Sambrook explores new research which indicates that people are willing to pay for news online. What does this potential new form of funding mean for news organizations – is it a sign that new subscription funding for news could emerge to replace traditional advertising funding? Richard discusses this with Nic Newman, author of the Reuters Institute Digital News Report, Madhev Chinnappa from Google, and the BBC’s James Montgomery and in the podcast the extended edition of the programme also explores how news organizations have had to react to the internet where news is freely available from many sources, and they discuss whether the growing importance of celebrity news online could be at the expense of other forms, such as investigative journalism.
