#WHYS Australia apologises for forced adoption policy

World Have Your Say

Available for over a year

We discuss the apology by Prime Minister Julia Gillard for Australia’s forced adoption policy. Tens of thousands of babies of unmarried, mostly teenage mothers between the 1950’s and 1970’s were thought to have been taken by the state in an effort to avoid ‘shame’ and given to childless married couples. Many in Australia have greeted the apology, but some say it is overdue. What hear your reaction?
