Even though Chinese economic growth has fallen off from its peak of the last few years, the country’s economic expansion still far outstrips most of the world’s big economies. China is a relative bright spot during turbulent financial times around the world, but growth comes at a price – the health of its citizens. Pollution, spewed out by China’s coal-burning power plants, is a constant problem, nowhere more so than in the capital Beijing, where Martin Patience has been gazing at a very cloudy sky. Plus, the art of seduction. The stereotype is that French men are experts in wooing women. But, as John Laurenson found in Paris, there has been something of a skills shortage in the romance department lately.
