WHYS 30: Is it safe being a woman in India?

World Have Your Say

Available for over a year

we hear from women in India discussing the case of the 23 year old that was gang raped on a bus in New Delhi, who is now in a critical condition in a Singapore hospital. Since the attack on the 16th December, there have been a number of street protests and widespread media coverage regarding attitudes to rape, and the safety of women across India. Most recently people have been reacting to another Indian gang rape victim from Punjab, who committed suicide after police took 14 days to register the assault and a further 30 days to make an arrest. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has responded to the Delhi bus attack by promising better action to protect the nation’s women.
