The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The Strand

Available for over a year

This latest adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s epic fantasy work is THE biggest film premiere of the year and we find out about whether it was worth all the hype. The 35th Cairo Film Festival, which was cancelled last year due to the uprising, opened one day late due to the ongoing protests in Cairo. We ask why some filmmakers are boycotting the festival and if the event has a future. Last week the poet José Manuel Caballero Bonald was awarded this year's Cervantes Prize. He joins previous winners Carlos Fuentes and Mario Vargas Llosa. Caballero Bonald's work remains relatively unknown in the English-speaking world so we dive in.
