Sri Lanka and Ukraine

From Our Own Correspondent

Available for over a year

Pascale Harter introduces personal insights from Frances Harrison on Sri Lanka, and Robin Banerji on Crimean Tartars. Conflict in Sri Lanka ended a few years ago, but many people are still feeling the effects. Frances Harrison meets a woman in Dublin who witnessed the deaths of her neighbours. After 1944, Stalin sent the Crimean Tartars into exile. Thousands were sent to what is now Uzbekistan. In recent decades many have now returned to Crimea. Robin Banerji explores how easy it is for returnees to build a new life and revive a culture. (Image: Crimean Tarters cry during a demonstration for the Crimean Tartars in Simferopol, Ukraine.
