Doing business on Britain's canals

On the Money

Available for over a year

The canals helped make Britain a great industrial nation and then fell into disrepair. As you may well have noticed, a lot of them have been brightened up recently and an increasingly diverse range of waterside businesses is also now emerging. The Government body which oversaw this regeneration is British Waterways. As part of the Government's Big Society shake-up of the public sector, that official body is now being replaced by a charity; the Canals & Rivers Trust. We sent our reporter Katie Prescott to meet the small business owners who live and work on the waterways.
