In 1911, an American Indian called Ishi emerged from the North Californian forest after decades in hiding from Indian-hunters. He is thought to be the last survivor from the Yahi tribe. Ishi became a tourist attaction in San Francisco and many recordings were made of his stories and music. Louise Hidalgo retraces Ishi's story. PHOTO: Courtesy of the Phoebe A.
