Latvia and Bush House, London

From Our Own Correspondent

Available for over a year

Pascale Harter introduces dispatches from BBC correspondents, journalists, writers and travellers around the world. In this edition: Cheap chic? Responding to the credit crunch, the government of Latvia gave its people one of the most severe economic haircuts in Europe. No longer a boom town, Riga saw many of its most glamorous busines ventures go bust. So how are Latvians looking now? Pretty stylish, in fact, says Damien McGuiness - in a budget-cool sort of way. A Tower of Babel (and that was just the canteen) Bush House on the Strand in London, has been the home of the World Service for more than 70 years. But not any longer. Its staff are moving to newer premises elsewhere - but their love for "Bush" is undimmed. Anna Horsburgh-Porter reflects on what the place has meant not just to her, but to her colleagues and to the listeners everywhere else. (Image: Bush House)
