Depression; Tanni Grey-Thompson on disabled parenting

Woman's Hour

Available for over a year

A poll by SCOPE, the organisation for people with cerebral palsy, found that three quarters of people support the idea that disabled people have an automatic right to be parents. Tanni Grey-Thompson talks about the challenges of being a disabled parent from her personal experience. The musical Mack and Mabel is based on the romantic relationship between Hollywood director Mack Sennett and one of his biggest stars Mabel Normand. But just who was Mable Normand? Actor Anna-Jane Casey and film studies lecturer Dr Mike Hammond reveal the truth. Painting of portraits in miniature was a highly regarded art form until bigger became better. Curator Katie Coombs and conservator Alan Darbyshire talk through the Victoria and Albert’s collection of miniature portraits from the court of Henry VIII to the 19th century. Plus, depression is the most frequently given reason for time off work. Does mental illness no longer carry a stigma? Disability Officer for the NUS Sian Davies, and psychologist and writer Dorothy Rowe talk about this rise in depression.
