Where the past really was another country The passing of time can so often change our perspectives on the world around us. Some people revisit the places of their childhood and find them unchanged; for others, they seem suddenly cramped, shrunken or otherwise alien. And if all that can happen just over one lifetime, imagine the distortions which can creep in over centuries. Javier Lizarzaburu recently went back to Lima, the city of his youth - and was heartened to learn of the ancient city that's been re-emerging from underneath its modern landscape.
