Plastic waste and the begging robot

One Planet

Available for over a year

This week on One Planet we're talking about plastic - a substance which has revolutionised our lives, but which is choking the natural world. We visit an exhibition on plastics at London's Science Museum, and also talk to eco-adventurer David de Rothschild, who sailed across the Pacific in a boat made of plastic bottles to highlight rubbish at sea. Also on the show we look at two of the innovative ways charities are trying to part us from our cash - a "round-the-pound" scheme in the UK which functions like an electronic charity box, and a robot in Korea designed to charm you into giving to charity. Plus, we take in the view from the tallest building in Accra, Ghana. As ever, we've a wealth of other material for you - tune into our YouTube channel to see a slideshow from our chat with David, and a video of the charity robot in action - the link's below. Email the team at [email protected], or join in the conversation on our Facebook page.
