The Radicalism of the Scots-Irish

The Ulster-Scots

Available for over a year

Helen Mark discovers that the radical Scots settlers who emigrated to Ulster in the 17th century, carried their radicalism with them when they crossed to America to become the 'Scots-Irish' later in the 17th and 18th centuries. There's a version of "God save our States" - written in 1779 to celebrate America's new found independence with its 13 states. Dr Charles Moffatt discusses his family genealogy which he has traced back through Ulster to Scotland. (Broadcast: 22/05/1999)
