Waiting for Omar

Assignment

Available for over a year

For the past few weeks the BBC's Piers Scholfield has been camped above the San Jose mine in Chile where 33 miners have been trapped underground since 5 August 2010. One of the miners is Omar Reygadas - father, grandfather and great grandfather - and team leader of one of the three groups of miners. The Reygadas family have invited Piers to spend time with them as they endure the long wait for Omar. They have given Piers unique access to the letters they exchanged with Omar down the mine and through them we get a moving and intimate account of their anxieties and hopes as they wait for the rescue to succeed.
