In 1960 John Updike wrote Rabbit Run, the first of his series of books following Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom through the social and political changes in America. Other books include Couples depicting adultery in a fictional New England town and Witches of Eastwick which has been adapted for both screen and stage. As he celebrated his 70th birthday he spoke to Mark Lawson about the way his childhood and his religion influenced his writing.
