The Shape of the Recovery

Business Daily

Available for over a year

Businesses may be hoping for a new vibrant era of prosperity. But in some places they are still clawing their way back from the dreadful conditions of last year, trying to return to some semblance of normality. Many countries have emerged from recession, and some Asian nations are powering ahead but there are real worries at the individual company level. Some are saddled with high levels of debt and find it hard to borrow money at affordable rates from banks. Others have had to make swingeing job cuts. Lesley Curwen talks to Angel Gurria, Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. He warns that unemployment is the biggest challenge. And we hear varied levels of optimism or pessimism from businesses in the English Midlands, Mumbai in India and Baltimore in the US.
