The Strand

Available for over a year

The best of the world's arts, film, music, literature and music brought to you every day. Presented by Bidisha. The Moon. The Strand celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first moon landings, assessing the artistic, political and cultural impact of the time when mankind took a giant leap onto a new world. We talk to Alan Bean, one of only 12 men who walked on the moon - and whose experience led him to become a moon artist. We find out about sound artist Laurie Anderson's tenure as NASA's first (and only) artist in residence. We hear a performance from Bap Kennedy, who's latest album was inspired by the moon and discuss the impact on earthlings on the landings with scientists Marcus Chown and Dr Ruth Kattumuri. To see Alan Bean's artwork, visit his online gallery... http://www.alanbeangallery.com/collection.html
