Cerys hosts your Sunday sonic and cultural adventure, with a spotlight on the worlds greatest carnival in Brazil, with Lucas Santtana, BaianaSystem, Sargento Pimenta, and Flaira Ferro. Lucas Santtana is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, producer and guitarist known for blending traditional Brazilian forms with electronic textures, literary themes and political reflection. His tenth studio album, Brasiliano, which explores language, identity and decolonisation in Brazil, is out next month. BaianaSystem is a Brazilian musical project founded with the aim of merging traditional Bahian music with the cultural elements of Jamaican sound systems. The name "Baiana System" reflects this fusion: "Baiana" refers to the Bahian guitar, a key instrument in Bahia's musical heritage, while "System" draws from the concept of Jamaican sound systems. They have redefined the Salvador Carnival experience by blending traditional rhythms with modern sound system culture. Sargento Pimenta is a Rio de Janeiro Carnival bloco founded in 2010. The name is a reference to the album ‘Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and the bloco's repertoire consists mainly of versions of songs by The Beatles, performed with arrangements of samba, march, maracatu and other Brazilian rhythms. Flaira Ferro is a singer-songwriter and dancer of the Frevo style, a high-energy artform which originated in the Recife and Olinda carnivals. Produced by BBC Audio for BBC Radio 6 Music
