Melanie C performs alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra from BBC Maida Vale studios for Radio 2’s Piano Room Month. Melanie C, aka Sporty Spice, first found fame in the world famous 90s girl group The Spice Girls - who still hold the record for the most chart-topping singles in the UK by a girl group. She began her solo career in 1998 and has since released eight studio albums. Melanie has co-written 11 UK Number 1s, more than any other female artist in chart history, and her work has earned her many accolades, including five Brit Awards. This year, she will release her ninth studio album, Sweat, in May, and her appearance in the Radio 2 Piano Room features the first performance of a brand new single. Melanie says: “It’s a real honour to be part of BBC Radio 2’s Piano Room. Performing with the BBC Concert Orchestra brings a whole new depth and drama to the music, and the longstanding legacy of Maida Vale studio feels like the perfect place for that. I’m especially excited that this will be the very first time I perform my new single - sharing it in this setting makes the moment even more special.” Back for its fifth year, Radio 2 Piano Room Month sees globally famous, award-winning artists perform three tracks - a new song, one of their well-known numbers, and an unexpected cover version - all accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra.
