Mark Forrest begins a week of afternoons of specially recorded music including exclusive archive recordings of the late, great Alfred Brendel performing the Beethoven piano concertos in Germany. We broadcast these to mark what would have been the pianist's 95th birthday today. Also, in this piano preferenced programme, recent recordings from London of Prize winners from the 2024 Leeds International Piano Competition. Today we hear from pianist Khanh Nhi Luong - winner of the Lady Roslyn Lyons Medal and Third Prize at The Leeds - who performs Schubert's late Piano Sonata in A major. And we also hear from second-prize winner Junyan Chen, who performs Ravel's La Valse. As ever, we begin the week with a live music-making from Wigmore Hall. Current Radio 3 New Generation Artist, pianist Julius Asal, performs music by Brahms, Ravel and Franck.
