The UK has agreed a ten billion pound deal with Norway to supply its navy with at least five new warships as part of a joint fleet. The government says a pledge by the Conservative leader, Kemi Badenoch to extract as much oil and gas as possible from the North Sea would not lower energy bills. Teaching unions have called for more support from ministers if they want to reduce the number of students who are persistently absent from school.
