Do you feel home ownership is within your reach? Are you struggling to save up for your own place? Or struggling to keep up with the cost of rent. Perhaps you’re the bank of mum and dad, trying to help with deposits or rents… but can’t… A survey by the flat share site SpareRoom, suggests expectations around homeownership has shifted. While 56% believe they will be able to buy property at some point, 14% don’t think they’ll ever get on the property ladder, and 30% are unsure. The average house price now sits at £271,000, £16,000 pounds higher than a year ago. Of those who don’t think they’ll ever be able to afford to buy, almost two thirds (65%) said they are unable to save a deposit, while a similar proportion (67%) said they don’t earn enough to qualify for a mortgage.
