Kirsty Wark reunites the cast of the pioneering reality TV programme Castaway. The experimental series took 36 people to the remote Scottish island of Taransay to create a self-sufficient community for the new millennium. She hears from the show’s creator, Jeremy Mills, and its breakout star, Ben Fogle, whose broadcasting career was launched by the series. Pre-dating Big Brother, the ground breaking social experiment was unlike anything seen before on TV. The castaways grew their own vegetables, killed their own animals, generated their own electricity and built a community for a year on an Outer Hebridean island. The first run of four episodes were a ratings hit, attracting audiences of 7–8 million viewers.
