Sir Francis Graham-Smith at 100

Science Cafe

Available for over a year

Adam Walton hears from Astronomer, Sir Francis Graham-Smith, who earlier this year celebrated his 100th birthday. Sir Francis Graham-Smith is a pioneer, who helped shape radio astronomy in its infancy and who is still inspired by the sky at night. Over the years he helped set up the Northern Hemisphere Observatory on La Palma in the Canary Islands, became Director of the Nuffield Radio Astronomy Laboratories at Jodrell Bank in Cheshire, and he was the Director of the Royal Greenwich Observatory in London, later being named Astronomer Royal and receiving a Knighthood for his dedication to his field. We had the pleasure of visiting Sir Francis at his home on Anglesey. Presenter: Adam Walton. Reporter: Llinos Pritchard. Producer: Stuart Russell.
