What Causes Violence?

Science Cafe

Available for over a year

Adam Walton looks at the science, asking what causes violent behaviour in city centres at night? New research at Cardiff University, using mathematical models over a three-year period, uncovers why people in the capital end up in A&E with assault injuries, linking queue jumping, sports matches and alcohol consumption to an increase in violent behaviour. To tell us more about this research and how we stop violence in Wales is Director of the Violence Research Group in Cardiff, Professor Simon Moore, and Dr Thomas Woolley from the School of Mathematics at Cardiff University. If you have been subjected to violence of any kind there is support available online. Victim Support is an independent charity dedicated to supporting victims of crime and traumatic incidents in England and Wales. www.victimsupport.org.uk
