How to cope with higher energy bills

You and Yours

Available for over a year

From this April, we'll all be paying hundreds of pounds more on our gas and electricity bills. In a special edition of You and Yours, we ask what energy bills will look like when the new price cap announced today by the energy regulator, Ofgem, comes in. We look at what to expect, how to reduce your bills and what happens if you simply can't pay. We'll also have advice on where to get any help that is available and discuss how to reduce bills where you can. Professor Catherine Waddams from the Centre of Competition Policy at East Anglia University will take us back to the late 1970s and early 1980s when households were badly hit by very high prices. We'll also hear from Alex Belsham-Harris, Principal Policy Manager at Citizens Advice on who will be worst affected by the new energy price cap. Dhara Vyas, Deputy Director of Policy at Energy UK, which represents suppliers, will tell us if there is anything the energy companies could do to help make bills more affordable for customers. Presenter: Winifred Robinson Producer: Tara Holmes.
