Perched high in a tree the song thrush has a varied and rather liquidescent call which can travel a far distance across the countryside. Listening to this song, more often a melody of two notes from the darkest days of winter, is a favourite of nature lovers and poets alike. With over 100 variations in song recorded, some have even described it as like following a small stream bubbling over uneven pebbles so providing an ever varied repertoire of sound twists and turns. For this extended version of Tweet of the Day we hear from Sir David Attenborough and from music philosopher David Rothenberg. Producer Andrew Dawes
