Student finance is in the news with a big review of how to change it in the future. One of the ideas is for students to start repaying their loans sooner and to go on paying them for longer. The cost of student accommodation has risen by a third in the space of only six years, according to BBC research. Many students now pay more for their accommodation each year than they get in maintenance loan to pay for it. The poorest students who get the maximum in maintenance loan, spend three quarters of it on their rent. Either they have to get a job or rely on their parents to support them.
