Who Owns the High Street?

You and Yours

Available for over a year

In this themed edition of You and Yours we'll investigate who owns the High Street. As big brands like Marks and Spencer, House of Fraser and Debenhams close down stores - we find out what's happening behind the scenes. We asked Estates Gazette - a data news agency for the commercial property industry - to look at 22 main shopping streets in 11 UK Cities to get a picture of who the landlords really are in retail. We choose the streets based on footfall and population size, in London, Birmingham, Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester and Nottingham. The research suggests a patchwork of ownership - making it hard to trace who owns what. We'll find out why this matters, and what it could mean for the future of our town centres. We'll have responses from the British Property Federation, the Managing Director of Poundland and the High Streets Minister Jake Berry. Presenter: Samantha Fenwick Producer: Jess Quayle
