Fly-tipping, Care worker pay, Gluten-free food

You and Yours

Available for over a year

New research for You and Yours suggests that fly-tipping has increased by nearly 45% in England, Scotland and Wales in the last 5 years. The vast majority of illegally dumped rubbish is household waste. Our reporter Samantha Fenwick has been out investigating with a crack council squad that's closing in on offenders. Workers who care for disabled people overnight have learnt their pay is going to be cut in the New Year. Their employers were paying them a rate to comply with minimum wage requirements. But following Appeal Court ruling they don't need to be paid full minimum wage if they are sleeping. 2,500 workers across the North West face what they call "life changing" cuts to their pay. The market for gluten free is growing, though only a relatively small number of people need to avoid gluten for medical reasons. New research suggests that many commercially sold gluten free products are lacking in essential nutrients. As the NHS stops providing gluten-free products to those with coeliac disease on prescription, we ask if we should worry about their dietary needs if they are dependant on what is commercially available.
