There’s always of a fair bit of pageantry and some unusual traditions going on around a King’s Speech. It is, after all, a landmark moment at the start of a new parliament. But what the monarch has to say about new laws – laws that could affect all of our lives – is perhaps even more consequential. And this year’s speech is the first written for a King by a Labour government in nearly 75 years.
