Essex village is England’s most deprived
Available for over a year
Jaywick has been identified as the most deprived neighbourhood in England for the fourth time in a row. The Essex seaside village near Clacton first topped the deprivation index in 2011, which is based on things like employment, health, crime and housing. Jaywick Sands was built in the 1930s as a holiday resort for Londoners, but in recent times the area has gradually declined. Last year, Tendring District Council drew up a £126m regeneration plan for Jaywick Sands, but leader Mark Stephenson said the government had not pledged to support any of it.
