Only Artists

Available for over a year

Novelist and publisher Tariq Goddard meets singer and songwriter Brett Anderson, from the band Suede. Tariq has published six novels, and has been shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers' Prize and the Whitbread First Novel Award. His latest, Nature and Necessity, charts the lives of a dysfunctional family over 30 years. Its matriarch, Petula Montague, has been described as "a great new monster of English fiction". Brett is a singer and songwriter, who co-founded the band Suede. Three of Suede's albums have topped the British charts, and they won the Mercury Prize in 1993. Earlier this year, Brett published a memoir, Coal Black Mornings, about his unconventional childhood on a council estate just outside Hayward's Heath, and his initial struggles for success as a musician. Producer Clare Walker.
