Martha Gellhorn, The Great Get Together, Mary Quant at the V&A

Woman's Hour

Available for over a year

This year the Great Get Together will take place next weekend, 22nd - 24th June. It was inspired by Jo Cox, who was killed on 16 June 2016. Jenni talks to Jo's sister, Kim Leadbeater, about bringing communities together to celebrate all that unites us and to reject divisive politics. We hear about one of the first female war correspondents, Martha Gellhorn. She wrote for more than 60-years, but was continually irritated by critics who tried to compare her with her ex-husband, Ernest Hemingway. The author Paula McLain has written a new novel about Gellhorn and explains why she refused to become a footnote in somebody else's life. And, the Victoria and Albert museum will be holding an exhibition of Mary Quant's clothes next year - and they're after any that you may have buried away in your wardrobe or attic. Curator Jenny Lister explains what made these so special and why they want your memories.
