Her father ran a betting shop and her mother was a school dinner lady. She was one of six children, and the only one to go to grammar school and university. Frances explores the Wolverhampton of her childhood, where Enoch Powell was her MP, and discusses how her own left wing and pro-European views were shaped by her upbringing and the place where she grew up.
