Call You and Yours: Are you drinking more than is good for you?

You and Yours

Available for over a year

Do you drink more than is good for you? Research suggests that around one in five people over the age of 65 who drink consume unsafe levels of alcohol. There's concern that people can easily slip into a routine of regularly drinking more than is good for them. Researchers at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King's College London said the "Baby Boomer" generation represents an increasing population of older people drinking at levels that pose a risk to their health. Their research, which analysed the health records of people living in the Borough of Lambeth in London, found unsafe drinkers were more likely to be male, white and have higher socioeconomic status. Those who were wealthier and better educated tended to be heavier drinkers than those from more deprived backgrounds. Producer: Jonathan Hallewell Presenter: Melanie Abbott.
