Macular disease drugs; Anti-TNF drugs

In Touch

Available for over a year

Michael Burdon is Vice President of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists which is calling for a review of the drug Avastin - one of the drugs being used to treat the eye condition Macular Disease. Avastin is currently only licensed for treating cancer and the Department of Health will only consider reviewing drugs which are licensed for that use. Rea Mattocks has a rare eye condition and expressed her concern that the cost of not funding the drugs to treat people like her is a greater long term drain on the public purse, than if the drugs were to be funded.
