The choices, which include books, music and art, have at times had life-changing consequences: Tamara Rojo, Terence Stamp and Bernardo Bertolucci explain how childhood experiences shaped their future careers. Will Self and Mohsin Hamid share unexpected influences - The Man Who Was Thursday by G.K. Chesterton and the sci-fi novel Star Maker by Olaf Stapledon. Choosing outside their field, writers Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and A.S. Byatt are inspired by art. A reproduction of Tutu by Ben Enwonwu means home for Adichie, and A.S.
