Radio 6 Music,12 Aug 2012,120 mins

Available for over a year

As a tribute to Lou Reed, who died on Sunday, another chance to hear an episode of his eclectic radio show. First broadcast on 6 Music in October 2012. Lou Reed's New York Shuffle ran the gamut from jazz to contemporary indie to vintage rock. Originally broadcast from Lou's home town, the world-renowned, avant-garde innovator co-hosted the show with music producer Hal Willner, who collaborated with Lou on the concert film 'Berlin'. Lou wanted to emulate the American FM radio of his youth, where as he described it, he found "DJs who did their own programming and set the bar high. I learned from those DJs and it's a delight, with my friend Hal, to do this type of radio". Hal Willner is one of the most well-regarded experimental producers in music today, working with Marianne Faithfull, Bill Frisell, Gavin Friday, Lucinda Williams, Laurie Anderson, William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, among others. In the first episode broadcast on BBC Radio 6 Music, Lou and Hal's wit and wisdom is blended with and extraordinary music from Feist, The Antlers, James Blake, The Shangri-La's, NRBQ and Albert Ayler.
