Richard Lane lost his sight 17 years ago and is curently working at the Lancet; he also recently decided to live alone. Diane Roworth is partially-sighted and heads the York Blind and Partially-Sighted Society. He likes talking microwaves and uses a colour detector to avoid fashion clashes. She praises volunteer visiting services and large print cookbooks.
