Khaled Hosseini

Open Book

Available for over a year

Mariella Frostrup meets the author of one of the most popular books of recent years. In 2003 Khaled Hosseini published The Kite Runner, a novel about two young boys growing up in 1970s Kabul, which went on to become an international bestseller. In an extended interview, Hosseini talks to Mariella about his own childhood in Afghanistan, his escape from the country as a teenager and his family’s struggle to survive as refugees in America. He reveals how his recent return to the country of his birth inspired his second novel, and tells Mariella why despite a career as a doctor he only ever wanted to be a writer.
