Kylie was to have closed the Festival

Coldplay, White Stripes and New Order confirmed for Glastonbury

Kylie Minogue's record company has confirmed that she has had to pull out of her headlining set at Glastonbury, after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

After Michael Eavis' original announcement, we asked what you thought about Kylie playing at Glasto and who else you would like to see at Worthy Farm. You can read a selection of your comments below.

There had been much speculation that the Australian pop princess was to appear, but Michael Eavis let slip in February - months before the official line-up announcement was made - that it was more than just a rumour!

In an interview with a reporter from the Wells Journal, the Glastonbury guru also confirmed that the White Stripes and New Order would be playing.

"Those people who might come along on Sunday to see Kylie Minogue might not enjoy New Order or the White Stripes, so we have something for everyone," he told Journal reporter Christian Lockyer.

The Wells-based journalist told BBC 6 Music: "He realised he'd let the cat out of the bag and said, 'Oh damn,' or words to that effect, 'I shouldn't have told you that,' and tried to persuade me not to publish the story."

The Festival, which takes a break next year, takes place at Worthy Farm from Friday 24 June to Sunday 26 June 2005.

New Order I am also very pleased about as they have been a group I have always been very fond of and I am very keen to see them live and I simply cannot think of a better place to see them but Glastonbury. contempory arts festival? kylie is up there with the likes of robbie williams and madonna.. it is pop. and i don't think many people will appreciate her being at the festival. especially if she mimes like many other pop queens. only criticism is that it clearly is not contempory which is what glastonbury stands for. and the websites headline. it's a shame, i am glad i don't have the money to buy a ticket.

I remember the darkness opening Glasto in 2003, they’re at Reading 2004. Scissor Sisters 2004, V two months later and this year, Oasis 2004, guess what V this year. Glastonbury will always lead the way and come 28/06/05 when were all back in the real world we will have experienced yet another classic Glastonbury first.

Seeming as Glastonbury started out as 'the Pilton Pop Festival', I dont see any problem with Kylie headlining the pyramid on the last night!! The fesival has always been known for throwing in the odd 'pop' act - think M-People, Robbie etc, and they all go down really well. If you dont want to see her, go to another part of the site for a whole host of different types of acts... The pyramid stage (although the biggest) isnt always the place to be, and the festival has so much to offer, so if you like her, see her (she is a great entertainer who puts on a good show). And if you dont, explore and have fun!... you wont be dissapointed!!!!!

I'm kind of disappointed that Kylie will be ending Glastonbury, it sort of feels like its giving way to the faceless pantheon of popiness, but to be honest, in the short term, it doesn't matter: there will certainly be someone good on somewhere else. On the Friday last year I wanted to see Oasis AND the Chemical Brothers AND the Levellers, so there's always plenty of choice (incedently I saw Oasis and was gutted cos they we rubbish and the Levellers were brilliant according to some friends. So the pyramid stage isnt always the place to be). The only way the Kylie playing is a disaster is if it begins a trend of pop princesses and comercialises Glasto into a teenybopperfest. But I don't think that's going to happen.

Consider myself a bit of a Glasto veteran having been six times. Glasto is not a 'rock concert' as so many people clearly not in the know seem to think. It's a 'Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts' and as such the 'big bands' are only a small part of it, and the whole Glastonbury experience. Kylie: Superb, she will add to the fantastic three/four day experience that is Galstonbury!

I'm sure she'll be performing on the Sunday. Sunday has always been a novelty day on the main stage - Rolf Harris, Jools Holland, Jimmy Cliff, Rod Stewart, the English National Opera etc. It's well known that it's the Saturday act thats the real headliners. I think Kylie's a great idea, and its good to see someone different. Most of the other bands will appear at all the other festivals. And with so many other stages at Glastonbury, you can be sure that if Kylie isn't your cup of tea, whoever is on the other stage probably will be! Good on you Michael! It'll be Madonna next, you watch! Isn't it about time the Stones made an appearance?

Will glasto truly suceed try to suit everyone's needs? since you can't buy single day tickets, wot are the kylie fans gonna do on fri and sat nite? i can't see camping appealing to many many kylie fans anyway, so you might be left with a lot of disgruntled glasto regulars squished in areas away from the pyramid stage. We know of the usual fans that glastonbury targets sucessfully- and there aren't enough tickets to meet that damand anyway- how is kylie going to improve glastonbury? An improvement on ticket distribution would be much more appreciated. i see glastonbury as a celebration of perfoming arts- not the bbc's chance to make up for what they've been losing out on with top of the flops- i mean pops. i'd love to see U2, zutons, the whites stripes, franz ferdinand- i am sure they will appeal to more than enough glasto fans.

I do not want to see Kylie at all at Glasto. she is so boring it's unbelievable. i will definitely not go and see her because i will most definitely fall asleep. i want to see Muse, and less of the contemporary bands who all sound like Joy Division eg Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand etc. i also want to see The Who with Zack Starkey as their drummer!

I'm not sure Kylie is really the kind of act the people who want to go to Glastonbury want to see. To think they've gone from talking about getting one of the greatest bands in the world, U2, to a pixie, pop diva, ex-soap actress, singer who sells underpants part-time. A shame really.

I think it's pretty cool, actually. She's big enough to play the gig, and will undoubtedly put on a good show. I have one Gripe, and that is about Michael revealing parts of the line-up before the tickets go on sale. Why do you have to do it, Michael? Can't you just let it be like it was a few years back, where it wasn't released until all the tickets were sold? If it's done because you don't thinik it will sell out, then you're wrong. The festival will sell out regardless of who is playing, and the punters know you'll get a good line-up. Please stop it.
