Another 150 failed Tamil asylum seekers are to be deported from UK on Wednesday, reports say

Freedom from Torture (FfT) says the British government's planned deportation comes despite well documented evidence of physical abuse is a "daily reality" in the island.

Speaking at a side meeting of the opposition Labour Party conference in Liverpool, the charity's chief executive Keith Best called the present government's position "untenable".

The meeting was hosted together by British Channel 4 television, Human rights Watch and FfT.

The controversial Channel4 documentary “Sri Lanka killing fields” has also been screened at the event.

Media during the weekend reported that another batch of 150 failed Tamil asylum seekers are to be deported from UK to Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

FfT said it is "gravely concerned" about the risks facing the deportees "having forensically documented the ongoing torture of Tamils in Sri Lanka after the civil war, including a number of individuals who were tortured after returning to the country."

The charity says it is documenting injuries associated with torture for nearly 70 individual torture survivors from Sri Lanka, this year alone.

A victim of torture from Sri Lanka has told FfT how he was tortured by Sri Lanka police seeking information about his brother's linked to the LTTE.

"They tortured me inside a room by removing my clothes and hitting me with burning irons," the victim is quoted by the FfT.

"They kept me for two days and my body was swollen."
